In Support of Building a Tribe
A local promotional post of gratitude for those that support communal efforts.
Yesterday started with me putting on slacks for the first time since March 2020.Â
Do we still call work pants ‘slacks’ these days?
A strength within my brand is my innate ability to network and engage others.
While I could explain this by interpreting my 11th house placements of Venus and Jupiter in Gemini, I could also offer a non-astro explanation. It’s simply because I was raised by a tribe of people and not in a conventional nuclear family set up.
In leaving a traditional marriage and stable corporate career, and while in recovery of my own life burn-out, I worked hard to maintain networking. In some sense, it helped me hang on to my own identity.
This week I was invited to attend an Honorary & Volunteer High Tea at the American Women’s Club in The Hague to pay my respect to the members for the hard-working communal efforts served this year.Â
There were free cakes and sandwiches provided you see. And cosplay was included with hats and gloves.Â
Our club’s outgoing president and a dear friend of mine, mentioned there would be surprise visits during our luncheon. One of which was from a local council(wo)man.Â
I was ready to bail at the thought of being sold a vote but to support our club’s Prez, I stayed to take one for the team. Then, I was pleasantly surprised to find a fellow yogi standing in front of me.
Having met Mariëlle Vavier years back in my local yoga community, I learned what her role was in politics. This was when the Dutch green party, Groenlinks wasn’t taken as seriously as it is now.Â
She inspired me to switch my vote as normally, I just default to the Party for the Animals. Always in support of the underdog. Though after binge watching recent David Attenborough documentaries, I feel strongly from a collective perspective, we need to concentrate our efforts to immediately save the planet and start voting for politicians that truly prioritise such matters.
I could go on to plug Mariëlle’s great work in themes of political activation, diversity & inclusion, but rather will wrap up to finalise compliments of the American Women’s Club instead.Â
I help recruit for this club’s local Hague, NL chapter by sharing why it is an important resource for those living abroad.
When I immigrated to Holland 18 years ago, the first friends I made were in their 50-70s and were either long term expats, or lifers (women married to Dutchies).Â
If not separated by death, these ladies remain in my life and have been instrumental in helping me to mind my manners while acting less feral.
The group brings solid mom and auntie vibes and gives me a strong sense of identity within the community I live in. The club welcomes all nationalities plus has student and business memberships available.Â
In search of my tribe, I’m happy to have the connections within this group of ladies.Â
For the readers joining from Holland, I have worked in a few helpful links above. Also recommend following Dutch Review’s Substack for covering Holland based news in English.
