May Cosmic Report: Shifts Happen
Your monthly cosmic forecast, served with Dutch liberation and sunshine.
Hello Dear Readers,
May arrived with leftover momentum from fiery Aries season and it is not wasting any time. This is a month of breakthroughs and awakenings. We’re working with the energy of both Pluto and Uranus, the cosmic disruptors, the chaos agents, the ones who show up uninvited and rearrange your furniture, so expect a few shake-ups and plot twists.
Liberation, Long Weekends & Paw Patrol
Today is Liberation Day here in Holland, though it’s only observed as a public holiday every five years. Last year we celebrated with a proper day off, but the next weekday Liberation Day won’t roll around until 2045, since they keep falling on weekends. This means no days off, but most Dutch companies offer it. Ah yes. The Dutch and their peculiar ways.
Anyhoo, we Dutchies have been enjoying an extended long weekend. This date always falls within the kids’ school spring break, so most people take at least two weeks off, and the whole country's population seems to be somewhere else. The weather has been absolutely beautiful these past weeks, and I’ve been outside for much of it, busy with my pet sitting/dog walking side hustle… which means I have plenty of furbaby pictures to share, and many steps to report. 👣
Here's a roadmap for the month ahead 📆
May opened under the intensity of the Scorpio Full Moon… but more on that in a moment, because it deserves its own altar. On May 6, Pluto stations retrograde, pulling our attention inward toward the transformative moments we’ve been avoiding. This is where we start noticing what we’ve clearly outgrown, what we’ve been white-knuckling, and what has been quietly, persistently asking to be released. Pluto doesn’t ask twice. Eventually, it just takes the thing.
Mid-May is where the magic lands. The Taurus New Moon on the 16th is one of the sweetest, most genuinely supportive moments of the entire month. Opportunities appear unexpectedly, conversations click, new pathways reveal themselves and something that felt stuck finally starts to move. Around the same time, Mars meets Chiron in Aries for the last time in this cycle, helping us close a long chapter around identity, confidence, desire, and self-worth. Healing isn’t always glamorous. Sometimes it looks like finally believing you deserve the thing you’ve wanted all along.
I personally think we will hear some big announcement around a tech development, or advancement during this period. But given Chiron is in the mix, perhaps it’s in the health industry.
Late May picks up speed. Mercury and then the Sun move into Gemini, and suddenly life feels lighter, faster, and infinitely more interesting. Uranus (now in Gemini since April 25th) adds electricity to the mix. Getting weird and curious is the vibe. This is where life starts rearranging itself. It’s about time!
The final stretch around the May 26th invites a deeper clearing. Do away with any lingering fears, old stories, or outdated patterns that surface one last time. Think of it as cosmic spring cleaning. Unlike the previous months, May doesn’t come loaded with high drama… it’s more of a purposeful, rolling exhale.
I am expecting more geopolitical drama to intensity. It's Taurus season, so we can expect this revolves around share of money and the world's resources. I simply do not understand how the orange king still survives the unbearable amount of stress. I am convinced there is a clone 🫥
The month closes on May 31 with a blue moon. A Sagittarius Full Moon that asks you to zoom out, take in the view, and notice what has shifted. Maybe your circumstances. Maybe you’re standing in the same life, but seeing it through entirely new eyes. The new earth takes while to birth, make sure you enter each day with a fresh perspective.
Full Moon in Scorpio ♏️
Friday’s Full Moon in Scorpio was not here to play. Which is to say: it was absolutely here to play, just the kind of play that involves getting into the dirt, unearthing what’s been buried, and refusing to pretend things are fine when they are, in fact, not fine.
That’s what Scorpio brings us. A deep dive. A clearing out. A reckoning, delivered with impeccable timing and a slightly unsettling intensity that (in retrospect) you always needed.
This Full Moon occurred on the Taurus-Scorpio axis, which is fundamentally about resources. What we hold, what we protect, what we cling to, and what we need to transform in order to actually thrive. The Taurus Sun has been illuminating themes of structure, stability, physical safety, land, belonging — all the things we build our sense of security around. In its opposition, the Scorpio Full Moon was doing what Scorpio does best: shining a light into the parts we’d rather not look at.
Scorpio is, imho, the best investigative detective in the zodiac. No one connects the dots quite like Scorpio. No one will follow a thread to its true conclusion with more precision and less flinching.
This Full Moon unlocked raw power and potential. It expanded our awareness of both the subconscious and unconscious mind. Now was (and still is) the time to dig into the truth and stop shying away from the subjects that make you uncomfortable. Be honest about what you’re hungry for. (Some justice, perhaps?) And refuse to deny yourself what you know you deserve. If you are making life goals now, using these next six months is vital to check in and track your progress.
May Day, Beltane & Boycotts
The Full Moon was charged square to Pluto (planet of power) in Aquarius, sign of the collective. Which felt deeply appropriate for a weekend that opened with May 1st, May Day, and the energy of collective action pulsing through the streets.
Some fairly large protests and economic boycott actions took place this weekend. Particularly appreciated: the protest outside the Met Gala in New York. What an absolute spectacle that event has become. Pluto in Aquarius is not subtle about what it wants — power returned to the people, systems transformed at their roots. The Full Moon square to Pluto in Aquarius on the first day of May felt less like coincidence and more like a cosmic undertone for the six months ahead. These wars aren’t ending anytime soon, and a global energy crisis is quietly being prepared for in the background.
But…. 💐
May 1st is also the annual celebration of Beltane, the midpoint of spring, the bonfire festival… the one where we dance around the Maypole and celebrate the absolute abundance of the earth. Historically, it’s a cross-quarter day marking the height of spring fertility: everything is blooming, everything is growing, the veil between worlds is thin in a warm and fecund kind of way, rather than the spooky October variety.
I celebrated accordingly. I spent last week sewing sprouted seeds into bigger pots, cleaning up my balcony, sprucing up my urban garden situation, and scrubbing my kitchen windows. Deeply unglamorous. Deeply satisfying. The weather here in Holland has been genuinely gorgeous — a record hot month, though the tulips were somewhat rushed this season because we simply didn’t get enough rain in April. Still, being outside has felt like a gift. There’s something about getting your hands in the soil that feels less like gardening and more like participating in a small, private initiation.
Mercury in Taurus - Your Permission Slip to Slow Down
Breathe out. We made it to earth sign season.
After all of that Scorpio intensity and Aries fire, Mercury entering Taurus is the cosmic equivalent of a long exhale.
Consider this your official permission slip to slow down when problem-solving. To be intentional with your words. To simplify your message. To stop sending the voice memo before you’ve thought it through — I say this with love, and mostly to myself.
Mercury in Taurus is the embodiment of self-worth meeting careful thought. It’s genuinely good news that Mercury has left hot-headed, impulsive Aries and settled into a grounded earth sign. We can finally catch our breath. Words become worth something again.
Choose them accordingly.
Red flag dates 🚩📆
May is generous but it has a few thorny chapters tucked in between the good bits
Here are the dates worth circling. Not to dread them, but to meet them with your eyes open.
May 16 — Mars Conjuncts Chiron in Aries
Cathartic and inconvenient in equal measure
Mars brings conflict and forward force; Chiron reflects our deepest, oldest wounds… the ones we thought we’d dealt with, right up until they surface at precisely the wrong moment. Together, they don’t make a comfortable pairing. Whatever comes up around this date may ultimately be healing, but you probably won’t want the catharsis interrupting your Tuesday afternoon.
If someone gets under your skin, don’t pretend it didn’t happen. Stuffing it down is not the move under this sky. But be strategic about when and how you address it. This is not the day to fire off the text you’ll regret. Let the heat cool by one degree before you respond.
Having your therapist (or your least dramatic friend) on speed dial wouldn’t hurt.
May 25 — Mars Squares Pluto Rx
Stay in your lane.
When the warrior planet squares off with the ruler of the underworld, egos clash and power struggles surface. It’s giving boardroom showdown, family dinner gone sideways, someone deciding today is the day to die on a hill.
You don’t have to participate. The highest-vibe move here is simply to observe. Protect your energy like it’s your most valuable resource. Because it is. Let everyone else fight their own battles and learn their own lessons. You have places to be.
The people who come out of this transit intact are the ones who stayed in their own lane. Apply this one a collective scale and take note of what the global leaders are doing this month. Who shows up to impulsively react vs who shows up with the same ol'bag of old world tricks.
May 28 — Venus Squares Saturn
The not-so-fun lesson on love and limits
When the planet of pleasure, love, and everything nice squares off with the planet of hard lessons and reality checks, it is almost always a bit of a downer. You may find yourself in a situation that feels stifling or heavier than expected. A relationship dynamic that needs a difficult conversation. A financial reality that needs facing. A boundary that finally has to be drawn.
Here’s the reframe: Saturn has a great deal to teach us about commitment, responsibility, and what love actually looks like when it’s built on something real rather than vibes. It’s not the fun teacher. It’s the one you’re grateful for… eventually.
None of these dates are reasons to hide under the duvet. But they are reasons to go into the month with a little extra self-awareness, a lot of patience, and at least one person in your corner you can call when the cosmos decides to get instructive.
